■How to handle skeins of thread■

The skein has a beginning and an end. First, find the beginning and the end.
The one that pulls lightly and the thread comes out smoothly is the beginning. The one that pulls lightly and gets entangled is the end.
If you set the beginning to the top, the thread can be pulled out smoothly.

What to do if your skein of thread gets tangled

1. First, take a deep breath and stay calm

If you pull too hard, the thread will break or the knot will become too tight.

Place the thread on a flat, wide surface and work calmly.

2. Find the ends of the thread

Basically, a skein has a "start" and an "end".

By finding the end and slowly pulling the thread out from there, you can see the center of the tangle.

3. Spread the large loop as wide as possible

If possible, hang it on the back of a chair or a spool (Swift) to maintain the shape of the loop.

Keeping the loop in shape will prevent the tangle from getting worse.

4. Gently pull it to see which direction it moves
Do not pull too hard, but observe which direction the thread moves smoothly.

Move the thread in the order of "pull → stop → move the other side".

5. Tips for when the thread is badly tangled
If there are any knots, gently untangle them with tweezers, a toothpick, or a sewing needle.

Use your hands to gradually open the loop, creating gaps and untangling the thread.

6. Don't cut the thread while you're working.
If you cut the thread in the middle, you'll end up having to tie it later, which will affect the finished product.

If you can't do it, cut it in a place that's as inconspicuous as possible and connect it with a knot or something similar.

🔧 Recommended items
Thread winding stand (Swift)

Ball winder

Safety pin (in place of a marker)

Thin eyelash or tweezers

✅ Prevention
You can prevent tangles by using a ball winder to make a "ball of thread" before using it.

When winding the thread by hand, it will be smoother if one person holds the thread in a loop while the other winds it.
