This flat foil thread is made by applying lacquer to Japanese paper (the lacquer acts as an adhesive), then attaching colored pure silver foil, and cutting it into very fine strips.
It is used as the weft thread in Saga Nishiki, one of Japan’s representative traditional textiles.
By trimming both edges, it can be used as flat foil thread.
Saga Nishiki flat foil thread is extremely difficult to obtain today, making it highly valuable and suitable for preservation as a reference material.
