Honkinshi Aokin – 24K Gold Leaf Thread
Honkinshi Aokin (青金) is a rare and traditional Japanese gold leaf thread made using genuine 24K pure gold leaf.
The term Aokin refers to a gold alloy with a slightly paler, cooler tone than ordinary yellow gold. This subtle color gives the thread a refined and elegant appearance, making it especially beautiful for traditional Japanese textile work.
The gold leaf is carefully applied to Japanese washi paper, then cut into extremely fine strips and wrapped around a core thread to create the traditional Japanese gold thread used in Kinkoma embroidery.
This thread was traditionally made for decorating kimono and obi, and was produced by skilled craftsmen in Kyoto's Nishijin district, one of Japan's most famous centers of traditional textile craftsmanship.
Because genuine Honkinshi is now extremely difficult to produce and the number of skilled craftsmen has declined significantly, authentic Aokin gold leaf thread is becoming increasingly rare.
It is a beautiful choice for Kinkoma embroidery, traditional Japanese textile arts, kimono and obi decoration, and other projects where an authentic Japanese gold thread is desired.
1 skein of length is 1000 meters.
The thickness of the thread is 0.16mm.
