Shijira-ori is a traditional Japanese textile developed mainly in Tokushima Prefecture, often known as Awa Shijira-ori.
Its most notable feature is the fine shibo—a natural puckering or crinkled texture that appears on the surface of the cloth. This texture is created by the difference in tension between warp and weft threads and by natural shrinkage that occurs due to moisture and temperature changes after weaving.
