This is an exceptional antique Tsutsugaki textile from the Meiji period (1868–1912), featuring a powerful and elegant design of hawks flying among pine trees—both traditional symbols of strength, longevity, and good fortune in Japan.
The deep indigo-dyed cotton fabric remains in remarkably well-preserved condition. Even after more than a century, the colors are still vivid and the fabric shows very little fading, which is quite rare for textiles of this age.
There are approximately four repaired areas. However, the repairs have been carried out with great care and are extremely difficult to notice from the front. Close-up photos of these areas are provided for your review.
This piece is not only visually striking but also a highly collectible example of authentic Japanese folk textile art. It would make a stunning wall hanging, a unique interior statement, or a valuable addition to any antique textile collection.
