This fukuro obi features the traditional Japanese technique known as *hiki-haku*. Over this, an elegant fan motif is woven, along with pine trees and various floral designs.
It appears to have been used only once or twice, and the condition is excellent, with no visible stains or damage.
Hiki-haku (pulled foil) is a traditional Japanese technique used in textile production, especially for obi and kimono fabrics.
In this method, metal leaf (such as gold or silver foil) is first applied to washi paper using adhesive. The paper is then cut into extremely fine strips and “pulled” (drawn) into threads, which are woven into the fabric.
This technique creates a smooth, lustrous surface with a refined metallic sheen and allows for intricate, continuous patterns to be woven into the textile.
