Antique Japanese Maru Obi – Taisho to Early Showa Period (c. 1910s–1930s)
This authentic maru obi was made during the Taisho to early Showa period (approximately the 1910s–1930s).
The colors and design of this maru obi are exceptionally rare. It is beautifully decorated with exquisite Japanese hand embroidery depicting a magnificent phoenix, along with pine trees, bamboo grass (sasa), and paulownia, all of which are traditional auspicious motifs in Japanese culture symbolizing prosperity, longevity, resilience, and good fortune.
As shown in the photographs, there are a few areas of loose embroidery, and the corners of the end (tare) section show some minor fabric wear/fraying. Please examine the photos carefully for details.
Aside from these age-related imperfections, the obi remains in very good condition, especially considering its age, making it a wonderful example of antique Japanese textile craftsmanship.
