This silk bolt is a traditional Japanese fabric intended for making a kimono.
This piece was produced during the Taisho era to the early Showa era, approximately 100 years ago, making it a rare and historically significant textile.
Antique kimono fabric bolts are rarely found today, making them highly collectible. Among antique textiles, a piece with such an exceptional and elaborate design is especially rare and desirable.
The fabric is made of Mon Kinsha silk, a finely woven figured silk known for its exceptionally soft texture and elegant drape. It feels wonderfully smooth and luxurious to the touch.
The design was created using dyeing techniques and features a beautiful karakusa (arabesque vine) pattern adorned with lavish seasonal flowers. The composition is rich, elegant, and representative of the refined artistry found in high-quality antique Japanese textiles.
There are a few small, faint stains on the fabric. However, considering its age, the overall condition is exceptionally good and it has been very well preserved.
Although the fabric may appear blue in the photographs, its actual color is a beautiful and vibrant shade of purple.
